A good option for the participants is to fly to Madrid airport. From Madrid, there are several daily trains from the two main train stations in Madrid, Atocha and Chamartín. Most trains are high-speed trains arriving in Murcia and then changing to a regular train in Cartagena at a distance of 50 kilometres. The train station in Cartagena is located in the city centre, close to the university and most of the hotels, so you will not need additional transport. Another possibility in Madrid is to take a bus to Cartagena, which is cheaper than the train but less comfortable. The bus station is also in the city centre of Cartagena, in fact, close to the train station.
By Air:
The nearest major airports to Cartagena are Aeropuerto internacional de la Región de Murcia (RMU) and
Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC) . Murcia-Corvera Airport is approximately 30 kilometers away,
while Alicante-Elche Airport is around 100 kilometers away. From either airport, you can take a taxi or rent a car to reach Cartagena. In Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC) there are buses travelling to Cartagena, but the frequency is low.
By Train:
Cartagena is well-connected by train. Renfe operates trains to Cartagena from various cities in Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia. The train station in Cartagena is centrally located, making it convenient to access the city center.
